Broadway in Chicago has announced their next season of productions, and it includes the official run of Peter Pan. This new musical is based on the 1954 Moose Charlap-Carolyn Leigh musical version of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. Tony Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Lonny Prics will direct the production. The tour is produced by NETworks Presentations.
Just like before, the show will include the Charlap-Leigh score, and there will be some extra songs by Jule Styne, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green. While we’ll still have Jerome Robbins’ version of Barrie’s script, this new tour is going to have a changed story by Larissa FastHorse, a Native American playwright. She’s here to make sure the musical’s portrayal of Native Americans is done right.
The celebrated playwright behind this musical, Larissa FastHorse, just made her Broadway debut this year with The Thanksgiving Play. Some of her other works include What Would Crazy Horse Do?, Native Nation, and Cow Pie Bingo.
“I am thrilled to be part of bringing Peter Pan to life for a new generation,” shared playwright Larissa FastHorse in a statement. “If you loved this musical before, you will still see the show that enchanted you, while discovering a Peter Pan that everyone can enjoy, without harm, for many years to come.”
The upcoming tour also features aerial choreography by Paul Rubin, music supervision and additional arrangements by Andy Einhorn, dance arrangements by David Dabbon, scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Sarafina Bush, lighting design by Amith Chandrashaker, sound design by Kai Harada, projections by David Bengali, hair and make-up design by J. Jared Janas, fight direction by Rick Sordelet and Christian Kelly-Sordelet, and Tinker Bell design by Paul Kieve.

While there have been numerous musical adaptations of Barrie’s story about the flying boy who refuses to grow up, the 1954 version has remained the most enduring. Originally created as a showcase for Mary Martin, the musical initially had a short run on Broadway in 1954. It closed briefly to allow for a live TV broadcast of the production, which turned out to be a massive success. This telecast was so well-received that it was aired two more times with much of the same cast, and later with an entirely new cast, including Girls actress Allison Williams in 2015. Over the years, this musical has seen frequent revivals on Broadway and in regional theaters across the globe. Prominent actors such as Sandy Duncan and Cathy Rigby have taken on the iconic role of Peter Pan in more recent productions.
This exciting new adaptation of Peter Pan includes the iconic and timeless songs such as “I’m Flying”, “I Gotta Crow”, “I Won’t Grow Up” and “Neverland.” Get ready to travel to the second star on the left and straight on ‘til morning! The adventure begins when Peter Pan and his fairy sidekick Tinker Bell visit the bedroom of the Darling children late one night. Yes, Darling as in Wendy Darling! The children are then taken on a magical journey they’ll never forget. When you attend this production, expect to experience an unforgettable adventure too!
It has been announced that sixteen-year-old Nolan Almeida will star as Peter Pan, joined by Cody Garcia (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tour) as Captain Hook, Emerson College graduate Hawa Kamara as Wendy, and recording artist Raye Zaragoza as Tiger Lily. Director Price has shared his excitement in a statement saying, “Nolan embodies all the beautiful contradictions of Peter. He’s an extraordinarily gifted young actor, a wonderful singer, and nothing short of magical. Cody Garcia as Captain Hook is utterly modern, surprising, and one of the most engaging actors I’ve ever worked with.”
